So much for World of Warcraft dying, huh?

Blizzard Entertainment announced that its subscription numbers have gone up to over 10 million following Thursday’s launch of the newest expansion, Warlords of Draenor, last week. That’s a significant leap from earlier Activision’s most recent earnings report, which said the massively multiplayer online role-playing game had 7.4 million subscribers last quarter.

World of Warcraft originally came out back in 2004. At its peak in 2010, it had 12 million subscribers. But it’s been on a decline since. The number was at an all-time low of 6.8 million when Activision reported quarterly earnings in August.

But the new expansion, which goes back to Warcraft’s roots and features recognizable character’s from the series’ past, is doing a great job of attracting new and returning players, even after a rocky launch.
