They all can’t have Mario, but every gaming platform needs some exclusives.
Mobile gaming publisher has released Protocol Zero today for Samsung Gear VR, the device that turns the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone into a virtual reality head-mounted display with Oculus technology. You can download a free demo version of the game at the Oculus Store.
Protocol Zero is a first-person action game featuring stealth and shooter action. It is exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Gear VR Innovation Edition. Although not the first exclusive for the device, every unique title is important at this early stage in its life.
“Samsung Gear VR Innovation Edition offers a thrilling experience of complete immersion and discovery in mobile games, and DeNA is excited to be amongst the first to tap into the device’s massive potential,” said Barry Dorf, vice president of partnerships and alliances at DeNA in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “We’ve designed Protocol Zero to exclusively leverage the Note 4 and Oculus technology behind the Gear VR, including the smooth 360-degree scanning and movement around environments, use of hi-tech military optics, suspenseful action, and a point-to-point tactical gameplay experience.”
While other virtual reality devices like Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus aren’t currently available to consumers, the Samsung Gear VR came out in December. It could be an early indicator of a VR-dominated future.
