This War of Mine is one of the few games to look at how war affects civilians, and now its developer is working to apply that social consciousness to the real world.
Developer 11 Bit announced today that it is working with the charity War Child to support kids living in combat zones. Starting today and running through Jan. 29, 11 Bit is inviting fans to donate to War Child through a special This War of Mine website. The money will go toward providing medical aid, schooling, and more to some of the children who need it most. To encourage participation, 11 Bit is holding a raffle of prizes for anyone who donates at least a dollar.
Prizes up for grabs include the following:
- 14-inch Alienware gaming laptop
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 graphics card
- Nvidia Shield tablet and Shield controller
- Steelseries Stratus controller
- Steelseries Siberia Raw Prism gaming headset
- This War of Mine download codes
This War of Mine is “dark, somber, and seductive,” according to our review. It is proof that games can do more and show us more than we may have previously thought. It uses familiar gaming systems to help players learn about the individual plights of the people starving and terrified because of the war that engulfs them. It is out now for PC for $20.
