Linux users beware.
A bug is impacting some Linux users who try to move their Steam directory. For some people, this causes the deletion of the directory tree. Valve is looking into the problem, and it has plenty of interest in protecting Linux users since the publisher is using that operating system for its upcoming Steam Machines (consoles designed to run PC games on TVs).
“So far, we have had only a handful of users report this issue, after they manually moved their Steam install,” Valve told GamesBeat. “We have not been able to reproduce the reported issue, but we are adding some additional checks to ensure this is not possible while we continue to investigate. If anyone else has experienced this or has more information, they should E-mail linux@valvesoftware.com.”
If you are a Linux user who has Steam, you might be best off not moving your files around until Valve digs a bit deeper into the issue.
