Your Xbox One is now a hub for PC gaming as well.
Microsoft’s Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced today that Windows 10 will enable streaming games from Xbox One. This means that if you have Microsoft’s most recent home console, you can play the games that you own for that system on your PC or tablet.
Spencer demonstrated this with the Xbox One exclusive Forza Horizon 2, which ran smoothly across a network. The game, at least in this controlled environment, didn’t seem to suffer any framerate or resolution issues.
Now you only need to buy a game once to “own” it on both your Xbox One and personal computer.
Microsoft has long promised that it would return to focusing on PC gaming, and this is a big part of that effort. We’re reaching out to Microsoft to determine how games will change on the different platforms. For example, Spencer did not specify if mouse and keyboard would work in games where that would make sense — the same thing goes for touchscreen controls.
We’ll update this post with any new information, and we’ll have some hands-on time with this new functionality as soon as possible.
