Some folks are having a hard time getting into the Land of the Dead.
Grim Fandango Remastered (which we quite liked) came out today for PlayStation 4, Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux, but some are having trouble downloading the PS4 version. The PS4 and Vita versions of the classic adventure game are supposed to be cross-buy, meaning you only have to purchase it once to own both versions.
Some who preordered and preloaded Grim Fanango on the PS4 simply can’t get it to start. They’re reporting that their unlock timer still has several hours left on it, even though it’s out now. Sony says that they are investigating the issue and that an update to the PlayStation Network should fix the problem. In the meantime, Sony has provided a workaround for this problem:
- Return to the PS4 store and purchase the free version of the game (this SKU will only be visible to preorder users at around 9 p.m. Pacific). Purchase the SKU only, do not re-download at this point.
- Restore PS4 licenses. [Settings] > [PSN] > [Restore License]. If this doesn’t solve the issue, continue to step 3.
- Go to Library, highlight Grim Fandango, and press Options.
- Delete Game Content.
- While still in the Library, highlight Grim Fandango and press X to redownload the content.
- Restore licenses again.
However, some people simply can’t download the PS4 game at all (like me ). When they look at their download list, they only see a listing for the Vita version. Restoring licenses in the PS4 settings doesn’t solve the issue. We’ll have to see if the PSN update will also fix this problem.
We also contacted Double Fine to see if the studio has a solution.
