Slack buys YC-backed Screenhero to launch new screen sharing feature

Today fast-growing corporate messaging service Slack announced it has acquired Screenhero, a Y Combinator and Andreessen Horowitz-backed startup which aimed to help teams collaborate better via screen sharing.

Following the deal (the price of which was not disclosed), Slack plans to directly integrate Screenhero’s features into its namesake messaging service. Until that integration is complete, Slack says “current Screenhero users will continue to have access to the product at no cost,” but the service will no longer accept new users.

Ultimately, Slack says Screenhero “will be phased out as a standalone product.” But for good measure, Slack says: “Screenhero will survive, just fully integrated into Slack.”
