Google has released a new ad for its Android operating system, and we have to say it’s the cutest one yet. Titled “Friends Furever,” it shows pairs of different animals playing together and generally having a good time.
The ad is part of the company’s recent “Be Together. Not the Same” campaign, which debuted along with Android 5.0 Lollipop in October 2014. The campaign was also pushed at CES 2015, not just by Google but by its hardware partners as well.
If you’re wondering where the song comes from, look no further than Disney’s Robin Hood movie. Unlike some of the previous ads, which showed a range of humans and humanoids interacting with one another, these ones don’t even feature Android devices. Nonetheless, the message is clear: the same Android experience is available on all sorts of devices, meaning you have plenty of choice (unlike with Apple’s iOS platform).

Google has also broken up the video into five 5-second ads: Android BFFs: Cuddles and Tigers and Bears…, Android BFFs: Orangutan’s Best Friend, Android BFFs: Bird Feed, Android BFFs: Get Back on the Horse, and Android BFFs: The Great Escape. These are likely meant to run as preroll ads, like on YouTube itself.
Cute animals frolicking about really have nothing to do with the open source operating system, but in the world of advertising, that frankly doesn’t matter. Instead, what does matter is that Google wants to cement the idea that Android really is the Windows of the mobile world: just one OS, but a plethora of different devices.
