Reddit has announced it will be donating ten percent of ad revenues earned last year to charity.
According to the company’s calculations, Reddit accrued $8,276,594.93 in ad revenue in 2014. Now, it plans to donate $827,659.49 of its total revenue to ten charities, chosen by its community.
Reddit first announced plans to give ten percent of its ad revenue to charity last year. In the announcement, the company wrote:
“We want to show that advertising doesn’t just support the reddit platform, it also directly supports the causes and goals of reddit as a whole.”

Reddit is partnering with an organization called Charity Navigator, which runs a database of rated and reviewed charities, to help Reddit users nominate and vote for a cause worthy of Reddit’s donation.
Over the next week, Redditors can go to http://www.reddit.com/donate to vote on their charity of choice. Voting ends February 25 at 10 a.m. Pacific standard time.
