Netflix and Leonardo DiCaprio sign multi-year deal for new documentary series

Netflix just signed a multi-year deal with actor Leonardo DiCaprio for an upcoming docu-series.

The project is just the latest to fall under Netflix’ First Look contract, which allows the company to exclusively premiere certain content. The streaming service recently struck multi-million dollar first-look deals for Beasts of No Nation as well as Jadotville.

Under the agreement, DiCaprio and production company Appian Way will work with Netflix to develop non-fiction programming that focuses on environmental and conservation based stories. DiCaprio will be the lead producer on all of the shows. The deal extends to projects that DiCaprio and co may already have in the works, as well as original content.

Netflix and DiCaprio have worked together before on documentaries. Last year, DiCaprio released Virunga, a documentary about the battle to conserve the ecosystem in the Congo’s Virguna National Park. The film went on to win an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
