Competitive gaming has a hungry crowd that’s always looking for more information about their favorite teams and players. Now, those fans have an option to get quick access to that type of news on Apple[s mobile devices.
TheScore, a free mobile app dedicated to covering e-sports, is out now for iOS. This comes about a month after the company debuted its service on Android. Fans of professional gaming can use TheScore to keep up with big events, breaking news, and more. The app even includes push alerts for those of you who need to know the second something important happens. TheScore also puts together video highlights of various e-sports competitions.
Competitive gaming is on pace to generate $465 million by 2017, and the millions of fans that tune in on video sites like Twitch and MLG.tv are a big part of that. TheScore obviously sees value in serving those viewers with additional information just like with traditional sports.
In a statement, TheScore chief executive officer John Levy said he was “blown away” by the reception of the Android release. He’s hopeful the iOS version will generate a similar response.
“The feedback from e-sports fans over the first month has been fantastic,” said Levy. “And the team is already hard at work on the next set of updates, which will deliver even deeper multigame coverage.”
TheScore provides coverage of several of the top competitive games. This includes League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, StarCraft II, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. And the company plans to add more games in the future.
