Amazon Game Studios launches new survival-horror game Lost Within on Fire and iOS devices

Amazon finally shows what it has been working on with the developer of Prey.

Lost Within is the newest IP from Amazon Game Studios, available now for Amazon’s Fire tablet and phone as well as iOS devices. This game was created in cooperation with Human Head Studios, the developer of first-person shooter Prey and the latest in a line of notable game studio acquisitions for the company. The launch of this new property on its own platform is just another step for the world’s largest online store to become a major player in the video game industry, a market which game investment bank Digi-Capital says is expected to hit $100 billion by 2017.

This survival horror jaunt has players solving mysteries and sneaking through haunted halls in an abandoned asylum to uncover a horrible secret — all while running from a serial killer. It’s a good fit for Human Head, as its 2006 release Prey featured a scary extraterrestrial theme. Amazon has said that it wants to find the space between the casual and triple-A game world, and survival horror could be a good fit for that space.

Lost Within costs $7 as a standalone game, with no microtransactions.

Not just Fire

Microsoft released one of its hottest properties, Halo, on the iOS platform today, stepping outside its ecosystem for increased reach into the mobile market. On the same day, Amazon follows by bringing its internally developed games to iOS as well. This is the first release of an Amazon-made game on Apple’s platform.

It’s worth noting that both Microsoft and Amazon have passed on an Android release for these titles — piracy is a problem on those running Google’s OS, and since these aren’t free-to-play, both may worry about people pirating their games.
