You won’t have to wait long to find out how that Star Destroyer ended up in the desert.
Jakku — the arid planet featured in both the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teasers — will appear in the multiplayer shooter Star Wars Battlefront (coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Nov. 17). The Battle of Jakku add-on takes place one year after the Rebel Alliance’s victory in Endor from Return of the Jedi. According to developer DICE, players will jump into the battle between the New Republic and Imperial “holdouts.”
The downloadable content will be free for all Battlefront players on Dec. 8. But those who reserve the game before the November release date will get it one week early on Dec. 1.
“A few things about Jakku: It’s a new planet in the Star Wars universe. It hasn’t been seen before,” said producer Craig Mcleod in an interview with GamesBeat. “Our first DLC pack is going to focus on this planet. … This is our gift to our fans. What it does is you play this battle on Jakku, which helps to create that battle-scarred landscape that you see within the film. This DLC is the only place that you’ll be able to see or play this battle.”
The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams first mentioned the new planet during a panel at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration fan convention in Anaheim, Calif. The movie takes place 30 years after the original trilogy.
Star Wars Battlefront is the first Star Wars game in publisher Electronic Arts’ 10-year deal with Lucasfilm. It’s also the first new console entry in the popular Battlefront series in a decade: The last one was Pandemic Studios’s Star Wars: Battlefront II, which came out in 2005.
