Google acquires scheduling app Timeful and plans to integrate it into Google Apps

Google is acquiring Timeful, a startup with an app that automatically drops events into your schedule.

“You will start to see the unique features you’ve come to expect from Timeful — and much more — available in Google Apps,” Timeful said in a posting about the news on its homepage.

The Timeful app will continue to be available, and users can export data out of Timeful, Timeful said on its homepage, but “new projects” will now be the focus of the team.

Timeful’s iOS app became available last year. Interestingly, Timeful never did manage to release an Android app; the startup still accepts email addresses for those wishing to try out a beta version of Timeful for Android once it becomes available.

The startup has accumulated several data scientists who previously worked at LinkedIn, including Gloria Lau. They should be a useful addition to Google on their own.

Timeful started in 2013. It was based in Mountain View, Calif. Investors include Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, Greylock Partners, Data Collective, Pitango Venture Capital, and Khosla Ventures.

The deal follows Microsoft’s acquisition earlier this year of calendar app Sunrise.

“We’re excited about all the ways Timeful’s technology can be applied across products like Inbox, Calendar and beyond, so we can do more of the work for you and let you focus on being creative, having fun and spending time with the people you care about,” Alex Gawley, a director of product management at Google, wrote in a blog post on the news.
