Songkick for iPhone lets you import Rdio playlists to tell you when your favorite bands play nearby

Songkick now lets you import your playlists directly from music-streaming service Rdio, telling you which of your favorite artists are scheduled to play nearby.

London-based Songkick has made a name for itself in the live music realm for the way it makes it easy to discover live shows based on what music you actually listen to. Songkick scans locally stored music, as well as cloud-based services such as Spotify, Pandora, and Last.fm, and matches this with its inventory of gigs to reveal which bands are scheduled to play in your locale.

The Rdio integration is limited to the Songkick iPhone app for now, but the partnership represents a follow-up of a deal revealed a few months back when Rdio announced it was to present tour-date information within an artist’s profile page, using data provided by Songkick. Rdio competitor Spotify had offered this integration for a while already.

To use this new feature, just head to the “More” tab in the Songkick iPhone app and hit “Scan your Rdio playlists” button.

Launched in 2010 by Skype founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, Rdio has faced increasingly stiff competition in the on-demand music-streaming realm, with the likes of Spotify, Tidal, and the soon-to-relaunch Beats Music from Apple arriving on the scene.

Songkick for iPhone has offered Spotify playlists integration for a while already, so Rdio will be pleased to finally be on an equal footing with its rival service.
