The monster-and-hunters cat-and-mouse shooter Evolve did brisk business for a new game, Take-Two Interactive Software said in an earnings report today.

Gamers bought about 2.5 million copies on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Evolve allows players form teams of four to hunt down a fifth player who takes on the role of a monster, with those roles shifting fluidly — along with the landscape — based on the monster’s and hunters’ success.

Publishing label 2K Games released a companion app for iOS and Android, Evolve: Hunters Quest, and a variety of DLC including the Evolve Hunting Season Pass, which went on sale at the game’s launch in February and included four new hunters and three Magma monster skins. Selling the DLC on the day of release wasn’t popular with all gamers.

Despite all the downloadable content, Evolve’s sales didn’t benefit much from digital sales, SuperData Research said earlier this year.

Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead, developed the new game, which is now almost certainly likely to spawn some sequels. The GamesBeat review of Evolve said that its thrills were massive online battle area (MOBA)-like, but the game’s content was still too thin.
