Google is testing out a way for you to pay for items at a store without pulling out your phone or wallet.
Called Hands Free Payments, the tool looks like it uses phone proximity to make payments, possibly through Bluetooth. All it requires is that a person download an app to their phone. When they go to pay at a register, they just need to give their name and the payment is made.
Right now the feature is being tested in the Bay Area with two partners: Papa John’s and McDonald’s. Down the road, the experiment could easily take shape as a rewards program feature for merchants.
More importantly, Hands Free could make paying with a phone even easier than swiping your credit card.
