Gmail users have been able to search for content from across Google’s various products for a while already, meaning they could not only dig out emails with a few carefully chosen keywords, but calendar events, documents, and web content.

This feature is now available from within Google Calendar and Google Drive too, as reported by the Google Operating System blog, making it easier to find files and other content without having to manually open a new tab. You just enter a search term, and relevant files start showing up as you type. This works within the individual apps that make up Google Drive too, including Docs and Sheets.

For Google, this fits into its broader plans to offer a unified experience across its range of products — both from a usability perspective and aesthetically. At Google’s annual I/O developer conference last year, Google revealed Material Design, a design ethos intended to bring a uniform look and feel across the board.

Now, by letting users search for more Google-hosted content regardless of which app they’re currently using, this creates a more cohesive Google “product.”
