Making Fun is announcing a major expansion for its Mage and Minions mobile role-playing game today.
The title is a success for a game company with a lot of history. It was created by John Welch, cofounder of PlayFirst, as a social-mobile game publisher. Making Fun was acquired by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. in 2011. Welch bought out News Corp. and spun out the company as an independent game publisher in January, 2013, and it has been teaming up with small development companies to publish their titles ever since.
The original hack-and-slash Mage and Minions debuted in August, 2014. It was created by Irish developer Snowglobe Games and published by Making Fun. The new expansion, Mage and Minions: Act III: Pyramids of the Gods, extends the title’s story and includes many more game levels. It has more than 200 voice recordings, an overhauled statistics system, and higher level cap. In short, it’s a big update.
The action RPG title combines sci-fi and fantasy. Players can explore, attack, and draw symbols on a touchscreen to trigger spells and abilities.

John Welch, CEO of Making Fun, said in an email he is excited to share the Pyramids of the Gods expansion. The title is reminiscent of the Diablo series on the PC.
Players’ hero characters now shout battle cries as they unleash devastating new spells. Adrian Zaharia of Snowglobe Games said in a statement that such additions make the game feel more immersive. You can win battles with split-second decisions and clever use of your spells, such as triggering an ability to rain fireballs on the battlefield. The title is available on Google Play, the Apple iTunes App Store, and Amazon’s Appstore.
Making Fun has offices in San Francisco and Buenos Aires. Besides Mage and Minions, its top titles include Dominion Online, BloodRealm, and Hidden Express.
