You know a sequel is getting serious when it throws the word “world” in there.
1010 World, the free-to-play followup to mobile puzzle game 1010, is out today for iOS. The original 1010 has more than 25 million downloads since its release in September 2014, and it has 3.5 million daily active users. That makes it a hit in a mobile industry that could be worth $30 billion this year, according to research firm Newzoo.
It features similar block-dropping and line-clearing gameplay from its predecessor, but it adds special power-ups and bonuses.
Gram Games, which is based in Istanbul, Turkey, developed both 1010 and 1010 World. In an interview with GamesBeat, Mehmet Ecevit, cofounder of Gram Games, said that 1010 “… has a nostalgic relationship with Tetris. It is like Tetris without gravity.” Gram Games said in a press release sent to GamesBeat that 1010 World is entirely with free-to-play, with some in-game extras available for purchase.
