Just a week after spinning off PayPal, eBay is cleaning house.
Today, the digital marketplace announced it will be killing off three of its standalone mobile apps and integrating them into its main eBay app. The company said the eBay Valet and eBay Fashion mobile apps will shut down in the coming weeks, while the eBay Motors app will be decommissioned sometime later this year.
The company is also retiring its long-struggling on-demand service, eBay Now. The service was eBay’s answer to the growing on-demand delivery market, but it failed to take off. Last year the company killed the eBay Now mobile app, and now the service is altogether kaput.
“While we saw encouraging results with the eBay Now service, we always intended it as a pilot, and we are now exploring delivery and pick-up/drop-off programs that are relevant to many more of our 25 million sellers, and that cover a wider variety of inventory that consumers tell us they want. We will continue to pilot scheduled delivery in the UK,” the company wrote in a blog post.

eBay is under a lot of pressure to deliver results now that PayPal is no longer contributing to its bottom line. The online auctioneer has some fierce competition to contend with, not just from other marketplaces like Amazon, but also from companies like Facebook, Google, and Pinterest that are considering incorporating ecommerce into their platforms.
