Rovio Entertainment, the maker of Angry Birds mobile games, said today it has appointed Tuomo Korpinen to lead its media business.
Korpinen is the new president of Rovio Animation and Blue Bird Distribution — the two divisions that are tasked with taking the Angry Birds property into movies and other entertainment.
He will also take on the role of global executive vice president of media business with operational, commercial, marketing, and development responsibility of all media-related activities and properties for the company. Korpinen will report directly to Rovio CEO Pekka Rantala and will be based in Los Angeles.
His job will be to create a long-term strategic plan to expand Rovio’s presence in the media and entertainment space, including positioning the media business segment, formulating strategic partnerships, and creating new strategies to build and grow both its media mix and product portfolios globally.

Korpinen joins Rovio from DreamWorks Animation SKG, where he most recently headed international TV sales of the company’s full-feature animation slate. Prior to DreamWorks Animation, Korpinen spent six years in multiple roles at The Walt Disney Company, lastly heading up the business development team for the film studio business globally. Korpinen also spent multiple years in the music industry in varied commercial, digital, and business development roles at both Warner Music Group as well as EMI Music Group.
“I’d like to thank Pekka and the executive leaders of the company for trusting me with these responsibilities,” said Korpinen in a statement. “I look forward to suiting up as the newest member of the team and working closely with all the remarkably talented and dedicated professionals at Rovio across the globe. My focus will be on continuing to drive the business further, maximizing franchise value, and expanding the company’s commercial footprint in the media sector in both existing and new innovative ways.”
