Foursquare chief executive Dennis Crowley revealed today that the company now has more than 60 million registered users and more than 50 million monthly active users — up from 55 million registered users in October.

Foursquare doesn’t often break out its monthly active user data, and this number’s quite high — if you compare it to Foursquare’s registered user base. The unusual ratio occurs because some of Foursquare’s “active users” have not registered for the service.

“We’ve hit the scale where we’re not going away,” Crowley said onstage today at VentureBeat’s GrowthBeat conference in San Francisco. Foursquare now hosts more than 75 million tips, up from 50 million in October, the company tells us.

In addition to its consumer apps, Foursquare is increasingly a provider of data showing where people go with their phones. “We’re building a service that’s designed to learn about the places that you go to,” Crowley said. That service is called Pinpoint.

Twitter is using Foursquare data for geolocation information. Microsoft is using it for Windows Phone and Cortana. AT&T, Jaguar, and Land Rover are using it.

“We need to find ways to monetize a lot of the data,” Crowley said.
