Windows 10 is now installed on over 75 million PCs, just four weeks after launch

24 hours after its July 29 launch, Windows 10 was installed on more than 14 million PCs. Four weeks after launch, Windows 10 has now been installed on more than 75 million PCs.

That’s about 2.68 million PCs per day. To say Windows 10 is being adopted rapidly would be an understatement. That said, the biggest driver is of course the fact that the latest and greatest operating system is available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users for the first year.

The milestone was announced by Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, on Twitter. Mehdi also tweeted a few other interesting figures.

Windows 10 is running on PCs in 192 countries, or almost every country on the planet. More than 90,000 unique PC and tablet models have upgraded to Windows 10 to date. Xbox One owners have streamed nearly 122 years of gameplay to Windows 10 PCs, Cortana has told over half a million jokes in response to users asking her to “tell me a joke,” and Windows 10 has seen more than six times the number of app downloads per device from the Windows Store than Windows 8 did.

All these milestones aside, Windows 10 is not different just because it is quickly becoming very popular. As Microsoft loves to tell anyone that will listen, Windows 10 is a service. That means it will be updated with not just fixes but new features in the coming months and years.

Windows 10 was built in a very different way than its predecessors. And it is still being built.

Indeed, Microsoft last week released a new Windows 10 preview build for PCs, asking Windows Insiders for help testing the latest fixes and features. This is happening in conjunction with the development of Windows 10 Mobile, which is currently slated for release late this quarter.
