Cloud file syncing and sharing company Dropbox today announced a new annotation feature that will let users place comments in specific places within files.
The new capability is available in an early access program for Dropbox Business customers, product manager Nikhil Bhargava wrote in a blog post on the news. Making an annotation is as simple as pointing and clicking in the file preview on the Dropbox website, or dragging a container over a specific place in the file.

The system has an interesting way of looking at comments on a previous version of a file.
“You can preview that version to see where the comment was originally left, so you don’t have to worry about losing track of your comment history when you incorporate feedback,” Bhargava wrote.

Dropbox first rolled out comments on entire files earlier this year. More recently the company added a section for finding recently used files.
Dropbox has more than 400 million users and 150,000 paying business customers.
