Intel equips BMX stunt riders with tracking analytics

In a live demo, Intel demonstrated its capabilities by equipping BMX stunt riders with tracking sensors and analytics software.

During the keynote speech by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich at the 2016 International CES (the big tech trade show in Las Vegas), the riders rode across the stage. On a screen, you could see the real-time analytics of their movements, such as how high they jumped. They even jumped over the head of Krzanich himself as he stood between two ramps.

The company will demonstrate the tech further at the 2016 X Games in Aspen, Colorado on Jan 28. John Skipper, president of ESPN, came on stage to talk about the partnership with Intel on the X Games (Intel is a major sponsor).

“We’ll put this to use in Aspen and see what else we can do,” Skipper said.

The bikes use Intel Curie chips, which enable applications for Internet of Things (in which everyday objects become smart and connected). Curie is sampling now and will go on sale soon for less than $10, Krzanich said.
