It looks like the beginning of April is … doomed. Sorry. I’m so sorry. That was awful.

Developer Id Software revealed today that the closed beta test for Doom’s multiplayer will begin on March 31 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will last until April 3. Anyone who bought Wolfenstein: The New Order and redeemed the beta code that came with it can participate. The Doom series has sold over 10 million copies, so a new game in the franchise is a big deal.

This is the first entry in the series since Doom 3 in 2004. The original Doom, which came out in 1993, was one of pioneers in the first-person shooter genre, which has become one of the most popular types of games with hits like the Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield series. Call of Duty routinely is the best-selling game of the year.

Betas are supposed to help developers find bugs before releasing the actual game, but they also serve as glorified demos that give players a free taste of an upcoming title. The full version of Doom launches on May 14. You can watch a new trailer for Doom below.
