Mario Party has caused a surprising amount of controversy

Just hearing the words “Mario Party” makes my palm hurt.

The Did You Know Gaming YouTube channel — which highlights trivia and little-known facts for some of the most popular franchises in the industry — has tackled the Mario Party series for its latest video. The original Mario Party came out for the Nintendo 64 back in 1998. The latest entry was Mario Party 10 for the Wii U last year. The franchise has sold around 40 million copies.

Did You Know Gaming’s video explains the series’ relationship with the ill-fated Nintendo 64 disk drive, and it also shows how Nintendo has had to change dialogue and other aspects for different territories in order to avoid controversy.
