Ubisoft won’t release the next Assassin’s Creed during its fiscal 2017, but it does promise something new.
The French publisher revealed today that it has five big-budget blockbuster games planned for the 12-month period ending March 2017. One of those is a new property, according to the company’s latest financial report. The company says that it expects this to grow its revenues as it only released four blockbusters during its fiscal 2017. In a market worth $99.6 billion, the most lucrative games are often still those marquee $60 releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. And Ubisoft is still one of the best companies in the world at capitalizing on that market.
The other four games coming this fiscal year for Ubisoft are the following:
- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
- Watch Dogs 2
- South Park: The Fractured But Whole
- For Honor
Ubisoft has not specified a release date for any of its upcoming games. We only know that they’ll all come before March 31. You can likely expect that the publisher will have most of these releases out in time for the fall holidays, but that’s not a sure thing.
After the start of 2016, Ubisoft may start shifting more of its games into the first three months of the calendar year. Both the Tom Clancy shooter The Division and survival game Far Cry: Primal found a ton of success after debuting in February.
But despite how the calendar ends up shaking out, it’s likely Ubisoft will announce more about its new game at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow in June. The publisher will precede that Los Angeles event with a media presentation that covers its upcoming products. It will likely want to generate as much buzz about its game coming out of E3 as possible.
