Taqtile Mobility said that it has teamed up with Microsoft to create a demo for the PGA Tour using the HoloLens augmented-reality headset.
Seattle-based Taqtile said it has created an AR demo that shows golf players’ historical data and scoring information on the infamous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, the PGA Tour golf course in Ponte Vedra, Fla. It will show players’ shot patterns and other data.
Taqtile will demonstrate the magic of HoloLens to PGA Tour officials, sponsors, and players at the annual The Players Championship.
“The PGA Tour is often considered a stuffy, old organization by outsiders,” said Taqtile founder Dirck Schou, in a statement. “The reality is that the PGA Tour is one of the leading sports organizations in the world right now in terms of presenting fans, players and its operations teams with compelling, digital solutions. What it did for fans viewing the recent TPC was a revolution in user experience.”

Taqtile built the demo with a 3D model of the hole, along with data from the players and the golf course. Over time, the company hopes that fans will be able to benefit from a similar first-person streaming experience.
The company is also working on a HoloLens project for the pro soccer team, Real Madrid Club de Futbol, which is one of the top-ranked soccer teams in the world. That project will give fans a VIP viewing experience that includes data on the stadium, pitch, in-game scoring, and other stats.
“We are super excited about Real Madrid,” said Schou. “The HoloLens experience offers some unique scenarios for pro athletes to analyze their performances or an adjunct to a training program. A lot of the same things can be done in mixed reality, but this project is more collaborative – it’s different when you can see and talk to people. Plus, the HoloLens physically is a more comfortable experience than with virtual reality, as it won’t make users nauseous.”
