Enterprise software company Atlassian is announcing today the beta release of Bitbucket Pipelines, a new continuous delivery feature of the Bitbucket source code repository service. The new tool lets developers build, test, and deploy code without leaving Bitbucket.

Atlassian has long had the Bamboo software available to use in companies’ on-premises data centers or as a cloud service. But Bitbucket Pipelines will be a native element of Bitbucket, not a separate product, and so Atlassian will discontinue Bamboo Cloud on January 31, 2017, Atlassian senior product manager Sten Pittet wrote in a blog post. Bamboo Server will remain available, and there are no plans to kill it.

“Due to Bamboo Cloud architecture and the complexity of the underlying infrastructure it is not possible for us to deliver the quality of service and the experience that our customers need,” Atlassian said on the page about the end of life (EOL) for Bamboo Cloud. “We believe discontinuing Bamboo Cloud is the right decision for our customers as we can now focus on building an optimal cloud experience with Bitbucket Pipelines and continue improving Bamboo Server for large software teams.”

Monthly subscriptions to Bamboo Cloud will expire on January 31, 2017, and pre-purchased annual subscriptions will work until they expire; in both cases, Atlassian is offering customers a free Bamboo Server license and one year of commercial support and maintenance.
