Today has been anything but mighty for this long-awaited 2D action game.

Mighty No. 9 officially released today after a long series of delays, but the launch isn’t going smoothly. Some claim that the game is running poorly and even killing their system (if you’re playing on the Wii U). Also, developer Comcept revealed that the Xbox 360 version isn’t coming out for a few days. Delays are common in the game industry, but you don’t often see one announced on a release date.

“There were issues regarding the publishing process for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and a certification bug was found in the final round of testing which is delaying the release of that version for several days,” a blog post on the game’s site notes. “Our team has already re-submitted the build to [publisher] Deep Silver (and to Microsoft), and we expect it to go gold within a few days if all goes according to plan. For the backers who chose that platform we are supplying Steam keys so that those users are not left behind on release day. Once the Xbox 360 version is ready for release we will send out those codes to the relevant backers ASAP.”

Comcept also revealed that the Mac and Linux versions of Mighty No. 9 aren’t ready yet, but will be in the next few days.

But even the people who have gotten their codes are experience problems. Some have received two codes for the Retro downloadable content and none for the promised Ray DLC. Some are complaining that their codes don’t work at all.

Reports of the Wii U version bricking that console are the most troubling. Bricking means that it kills the system (making it as functional as a brick, hence the name). It’s the worst kind of bug a game can have. Others claim that the Wii U version suffers from long load times and framerate issues.

Publisher Deep Silver told GamesBeat that is working to fix issues with the Wii U version.

“We’re aware of some isolated incidents of consumers experiencing issues on Wii U, and they’re actually being addressed in a patch that’s deploying out on Wii U systems today,” Deep Silver told us. “The patch is already live in Europe, and should be hitting U.S. before the end of the day.”

This is a rough day for a project that started with so much enthusiasm. The Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 raised $3,845,170 back in 2013, making it one of the most successful crowdfunding runs for a video game ever. But multiple delays and a poor advertising campaign seemed to turn fans against the project.

Mighty No. 9 is also struggling with critics. It currently has an average review score of 58 out of 100 on Metacritic. We are working on our review of the PlayStation 4 version now.
