Rockstar Games revealed today that Red Dead Redemption, the open world cowboy game that originally came out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, will become available via the Xbox One’s backward compatibility service on July 8. Red Read Redemption was one of the most popular games of its era, shipping over 14 million copies. It was also one of the most requested games for the Xbox One backward compatibility program, which makes Xbox 360 title playable on the newer console.
“Starting on Friday, every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition),” Rockstar Games detailed. “And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday (July 8) from the Games Store on Xbox One.”
Some people actually already played Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox One due to a strange workaround that allowed them to launch the test version of the conversion. Microsoft eventually made the game impossible to launch.
The Xbox One has not sold as well as its rival, the PlayStation 4. However, backwards compatibility is a unique feature for the Xbox One. The PlayStation 4’s closest equivalent is PlayStation Now, which allows users to stream PlayStation 3 games on the PlayStation 4.
