Apple releases iOS 10 public beta 5

Apple today released the fifth version of the public beta for iOS 10, the next version of its mobile operating system. Today’s release comes one week after the fourth public beta became available.

Compared with iOS 9, the new OS features redesigned Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Maps, and Photos apps, along with a new Home app for controlling Internet-connected devices. Apple isn’t saying what’s in today’s release, but generally these updates fix bugs and add new features.

This public beta update can be installed on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, fourth-generation iPad, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, and sixth-generation iPod Touch.

If you’d like to install the newest public beta, you can open up Settings, hit Software Update, and hit Download and Install. To install, you’ll need to have your iOS device connected to a power source or have at least 50 percent battery life. You’ll also need to be part of the Apple Beta Software Program. The complete version of iOS 10 will be coming out for everyone this fall — when Apple will also likely debut new iPhones — but if you want to preview it, these public betas are your chance.
