Sonos announced today that “in just a few weeks” Spotify users will be able to control the company’s connected speakers directly within Spotify’s apps for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC.

Sonos shared the news at an event in New York, where the company had invited press to “come hear how it’s all connected.”

According to Sonos, similar functionality is coming to “its entire lineup of music service partners, including Pandora,” but Sonos declined to share when other apps will gain the feature.

Available in “beta” sometime in October, this integration represents a noteworthy change for Sonos, which previously only allowed its speakers to be controlled by the official Sonos app. This restriction proved frustrating for some Sonos users, who found Sonos’ app difficult to use.

Spotify’s “Connect” technology — the same functionality that enables Spotify to work with Google’s Cast devices — will allow the app to communicate with Sonos’ speakers.
