Nintendo announced today during its Nintendo Direct stream that Super Mario Maker is getting a new version for 3DS. The first Mario Maker came out for the Wii U last year and sold over 1 million copies in the U.S., and it was one of GamesBeat’s favorite 2015 games. The 3DS release comes out on December 2.
The 3DS version will focus on local communities, having players share courses with nearby friends via wireless Streetpass instead of on the internet. Nintendo also noted that not all Wii U courses will be compatible with the 3DS release, which will come with 100 built-in levels. It will have all of the items and building tools from the original game, except for the Mystery Mushroom and its costumes.
Unlike the Wii U version, players will be able to send in-progress versions of levels to friends.
