Uber has launched a redesigned music program for riders, allowing them to listen to Pandora or Spotify right from the ride-hailing app. This updated feature will be rolling out over the next few weeks and is only available on Uber’s iOS app and where Pandora and Spotify are currently accessible.

After hailing an Uber driver who has connected music, the rider will see a music bar at the bottom of their app. By tapping the bar, they’ll be promoted to sign into their Pandora or Spotify Premium account. After that, riders can control what’s playing in the car for the duration of their trip, including choosing songs, stations, or playlists.

An updated rider music program had been promised since June, when Uber revealed that it was reworking its music program. In 2014, Spotify became one of the first music providers to partner with the company and was available in London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney, and Toronto. But the relationship was “paused” for some retooling, although Uber stated that the partnership was still “ongoing.”

In lieu of an active Spotify program, Uber struck an accord with Pandora that enables drivers to customize their trips.

Now riders have access to both Spotify and Pandora right through their Uber app, giving them greater control over their experience. But, again, this is only available in countries where the music services are operational — Pandora can only be accessed in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, while Spotify is currently available in 59 markets.
