Bandai Namco needed to include a few key characteristics in order to ensure that Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is a real Pac-Man Championship Edition game. These include fast gameplay, 5 minute rounds, score-chasing leaderboards, and — most important — a bass-pounding theme song that plays over the opening credits.

I don’t know if Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, which is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam for $13, does leaderboards or anything else right yet, but I can confirm that its music will smash pleasantly into your eardrums. When you boot up the latest adventure of the yellow pellet muncher, the game immediately kicks up the energy with an electronic dance tune. The new game continues that legacy, but it also introduces a number of subtle rule changes and elements like boss fights to keep players on their toes.
