Hollywood has found a new game studio to team up with.
Firewatch developer Campo Santo is working with film production company Good Universe on adapting the adventure game into a movie. That is the first project Good Universe and Campo Santo will work on together, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to bringing one of the best games of 2016 to the big screen, this partnership will also see the two companies collaborating on totally new projects in both mediums. For Good Universe, this gives the company a pipeline of original intellectual properties that it can turn into films. Campo Santo, meanwhile, can maximize the value of its creations by expanding them from games into other formats. Firewatch will join Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed, and The Angry Birds Movie as one of the most recent films based on a game.
“When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate, and produce incredible stories,” Campo Santo cofounder Sean Vanaman said in a canned statement. “It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together.”
Campo Santo has only released Firewatch, but that game is both a critical (read my review) and commercial success. The developer confirmed it has sold more than 1 million copies of the game since launching it in February.

Good Universe is best known for producing the Neighbors movies starring Seth Rogen and Zach Efron. As with all Hollywood production companies, it is always looking for the next big breakout intellectual property to adapt, and that was the motivation behind its deal with Campo Santo.
“Finding extraordinary content is incredibly exciting,” Good Universe cofounder Joe Drake said in a statement. “With the Campo Santo team, we felt an immediate simpatico with their utterly beguiling storytelling and amazing creative instincts.”
