Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox has revealed new content for Battleborn, the hero-based shooter with multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) influences. It includes new story content that you can play solo or with friends and a new multiplayer mode, both of which will be available today.

New content like this can keep current players engaged, which is especially important for Battleborn, which has an in-game shop. More players means more people who are likely to buy additional cosmetics and content. We don’t know how well 2K’s shooter is doing, but its release in May was quickly overshadowed by Overwatch, a similar team-based, hero-focused game from Blizzard that has recently passed 20 million players. Rumors have suggested that Battleborn could be going to free-to-play soon, but it remains $40 for now.

Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion is the story campaign. It’s the first of five planned missions, which are available to anyone who bought the Digital Deluxe version of Battleborn ($75) or its season pass ($20). You can also buy access to Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion individually with 700 Platinum, the game’s premium currency (that’s $5 in U.S. dollars). You can watch a trailer for the story campaign below.

Faceoff, the new competitive mode, is available to everyone for free. It has two teams of five players competing to kill more computer-controlled enemies (called the Varelsi). Players have to pick up the masks the Varelsi drop and deposit them in order to earn points. The first team to get 500 points wins.
