Super Mario Run demos to hit Apple Stores Thursday

You don’t have to wait much longer to try the next Mario game, but you do have to walk into an Apple Store.

Nintendo will have Super Mario Run demos running at Apple Stores around the United States starting Thursday, December 8. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé made the announcement on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this evening, where the company also showed off a playable version of its upcoming hybrid home/handheld Switch console.

Super Mario Run is an iPhone game, the first starring the short Italian plumber, and it is due out exclusively for the iPhone later this month. Nintendo will enable players to download it for free once it debuts, but then the game will have a $10 charge to unlock all of its content. For now, however, you can try a slice of that experience at one of Apple’s retail locations.

Super Mario Run is a big release for Nintendo. It is the company’s first major move into gaming in the $36.6 billion mobile gaming industry, and many analysts expect it to generate millions of dollars in revenue. Nintendo obviously wants to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, and taking the game to Fallon is one way to accomplish that.
