Andrej Karpathy, a former leading researcher and member of the founding team at OpenAI and the one-time head of AI at Tesla has posted on X that he has left the former company once more.
According to his post, Karpathy said his “immediate plan is to work on my personal projects and see what happens. Those of you who’ve followed me for a while may have a sense for what that might look like ;)“
This marks Andrej’s second stint at OpenAI.
He first worked at OpenAI in 2016 and 2017, according to his LinkedIn, under co-founders turned AI competitors Elon Musk and Sam Altman. Then, he left to follow Musk to Tesla from 2017 to 2022 as Director of AI and thus, a leader among its self-driving ambitions.
