In Game Currency.  You are my worst enemy in this game industry.  You make me do things that I really don’t want to and you mess up my flow of getting through my first game play.  I see you not caring about my feelings and you just don’t care how you can put a whole game on hold just to get you.

Why can’t I leave you alone?

IGCs in games are part of the process of creating a stronger character in games.  RPGs of course are built around it (even more than level grinding).  In games like Ratchet and Clank, Zelda, and even (and I hate to say it) Megaman Legends, currency plays a major role in defining your character with weapons and items to get through or to progress the game further depending what part of the game you’re at.  In the game Forgotten Worlds, the blue orbs or Zenny, help you buy weapons, shields, and more life.  The little “shops” that pop out from time to time are the only moments (and with a time limit) that you can get any items in the game.  By shmups standards, it was a new or different concept for me.  The zenny I had got in the levels limited me what I can buy and for that, it was the introduction of final decisions.

Though IGCs do have a major problem with them.  When you can’t do nothing after buying almost everything in the game and even help build a town, your stuck with all this money with no purpose.  I understand Sim games are more supply and demand with money coming and going but if you brought everything in Devil May Cry, what can you do with the leftovers?

Take Okami for example.  You can buy everything in the game and be left just getting money halfway through the game.  On your first play through (and yes I have done this).  In Windwaker, the rupee’s really didn’t have a purpose until you got to Tingle and had to buy the maps.

I know for me and especially RPGs, I kind of plan out everything that I need to buy for all my characters and grind to make the amount instead of character levels (since they come anyway from the grinding).  FF XII, which was base off the loot system, has it reverse in the manner that you grind for levels and whatever you pick up is what your IGC will be when you sell the loot.  God Of War currency is only for the weapons that you already obtain.

IGCs.  Once again, I hate you for your purpose but you make me develop a OCD for you.  Just do one thing for me.  Stay with me until you become useless (and my eyes look at Borderlands and Infamous….rolls itself at Darksiders).
