(Found on a bloody corpse near Azura's Shrine.)

How long has it been since I first heard of the Azura's Blackstar quest, whispered among the lines during Skyrim's midnight launch? A week? A month? It' doesn't matter, I can think of nothing else now. My goal is at hand.

After hours of searching the Elderscrolls wikia on my smartphone I finally traced the Daedric quest to the mountains around Winterhold. The death of my battery was necessary. But I have it. At last, I know where to find it.

Thirty minutes of nonstop walking. I reached Winterhold ahead of the main story, and took the icy path, bound for Azura's Shrine once more.

I am becoming suspicious of the enemies here. Coming upon a bandit camp, I barely finished off the lone scavenger before my magicka gave out. My last save was an hour ago, I don't want to think about what would've happened if my potions ran out.

I hope to spend the rest of the journey unseen, hoarding my scrolls and levelling up my restoration skill. But I need a back up plan in case I run into something bigger than a wolf. I have to find an invisibility potion.

The Sabre Cat took my head off in two swipes. I couldn't drink potions fast enough to get away, never mind defeat the beast. I need a meat shield.

Lydia is nothing if not loyal. Given to me as a Housecarl, I have something more urgent than carling my house. She never stood a chance against the Sabre.

But it gave me enough time to push deeper into the mountains. Just a few more minutes and I'll reach the Azura's marker. Any longer and I'm turning down the difficulty.

I can see Azura's stupid head from behind the mountain but I've walked up the wrong side. My black star for a horse! Little has changed since I first heard of the star since my playthrough in Oblivion five years ago. Now only Bethesda's invisible walls keep me from my prize.

It took 20 minutes but I found the correct path to the shrine. I spent 20 more spending perk points and unlocking dragon shouts that might be needed to bypass the battle for the star. At long last, today is the day of reckoning. If I cannot have the star, no one will.
