In celebration of Black History Month, I whipped up a list of notable black video game characters. Not only is the list a collection of The Top Five Memorable Black video game character of the past decade -these characters are outstanding and memorable protagonists in their respective game, but deserve their full feature story.
Augustus "Cole Train" Cole featured as a non-playable character in Gears of War 1 and 2, EPIC continuallys hold a brother down, he has saved Marcus, Dom and the rest of Delta Squad on numerous. Deserves the Medal of his own Game in my book.
Alyx Vance is a non-playable heroine in the popular Half Life 2 series. When they first met, Alyx not only saved Gordon Freeman from the Combine forces, but has continually fought alongside the hero till the events of Episode 2. True story, Valve is creating Episode 1.5, where Alyx is the only playable character where she has to escape a crazed computer program who promises cake at each turn of forking paths of death.
Staff Sergeant Avery Johnson was a non-playable character in the Halo series, and babysat Master Chief through all the tough spots. Sgt. Johnson was Master Chief's Jesus, when Master Chief needed to be carried on the beach, there was only one set of footprints, Sgt. Johnson's.
Drebin 893 is a non-playable arms dealer in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and is rumored to have been a child soldier for the Ugandan government. No Russian? Try a KojiPro game with child soldiers, it will sell.
Sgt Foley in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a non-playable, hootin tootin-gun-weilding of a man, leads a squad in the defence of Washington DC from those pesky, whiskey, bear humping Ruskies. Do not fret, there will be more Call of Duties, they sell.
