Tina the Tyrannosaurus rex chatbot wants to teach your kids a thing or two

Who says chatbots have to help you create a startup or ghost someone you don’t want to talk to anymore?

For the next week only, Tina the Tyrannosaurus rex chatbot will speak to users of National Geographic Kids Facebook pages in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. You can also visit this Messenger URL to speak with Tina.

The bot won’t automate tasks or change business and government, like some bots are on a mission to do, it just wants to talk to your kids about the typical life of a Tyrannosaurus rex.

Tina does its best to stay conversational with its fact-sharing, but it has a bit of a sense of humor.

Ask what a T-rex likes to eat, and Tina will tell you meat and other dinosaurs, but “you could be pretty tasty too.”

“Chatbots are popping up everywhere, but Tina is distinctive as an edu-bot, focusing on educating kids on dinosaur facts,” said Tim Rodgers, a founding partner at +rehabstudio, in a statement.

Among other examples of artificial intelligence and natural language processing being used to help kids, IBM’s Watson will soon be coming to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool to answer questions for young patients and their families.
