Vega unveiled as first in home Android device

For some time now Google’s been talking about having their Android operating system run on multiple devices, not just phones. In August, T-Mobile even suggested that Android would be appearing on a home phone and a tablet computer early next year, both running Android.  Today unveils the first in home device to run the Android OS and it’s even kitchen-friendly.

UK and Seattle-based Innovative Converged Devices (ICD), an engineering company focusing on the mobile and computing industry, today launched Vega, its first in a line of future Android products. The Vega is a low-cost, large screen in-home device with complete connectivity. The device is a nice mixture of smartphone and PC features with the convenience of a touch screen. Though with the basic memory at 512 megabytes it’s comparable to a standard netbook. Currently, the price is unknown, but will probably be released, along with full specs and a demo, at the 2010 International CES Show on January 7-10.

But don’t be fooled, this device looks to pack a serious punch. Leveraging the Android Eclair operating system, the Vega rocks HD entertainment, 3G connectivity (with automatic updates for software and applications), a Tegra processor, full streaming media and a touch interface into three different size options – 7-inch, 11-inch and 15-inch. IDC is responsible for several products including the Momento, one of the world’s first wireless picture frames and Velocity Mobile phones.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet to find the Vega under the Christmas tree, it doesn’t hit shelves until sometime in the first half of 2010.
