As the end of summer nears and kids all over the country are coming back from camp, and some parents might already be thinking about where to send them next year.

San Francisco-based ActivityHero helps find and book after-school activities and summer camps for kids. On the site, parents can read program descriptions, locate a program on a map, or check out user reviews. They can register their kids in multiple programs with one common app and activity providers automate the paperwork and payments.

Calling itself a “Yelp for kids’ activities,” ActivityHero grew out of a listing of summer camps that started last year called Sign Up For Camp.com.

In 2012 it expanded its focus to include shorter activities such as dance classes, art programs, and other after-school time-killers in its two pilot locations, the San Francisco Bay Area and Philadelphia. The service is now available in hundreds of cities in the U.S.

According to a new Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the company is about $350,000 away from landing a $2.2 million funding round.

The business was started by two tech industry moms, Shilpa Dalmia (an engineer) and Peggy Chang (a software developer). Both wanted a better way to find activities for their own kids. That’s how ActivityHero was born.

ActivityHero was part of startup accelerator 500 Startups’ fourth batch of companies back in 2012.

No further information is available right now on the details of the funding round, nor on what the company plans to do with the new money.

Calls for comment were not returned by post time Monday afternoon.
