He isn’t the first founder to return to his roots in recent weeks— Jack Dorsey, one of the initial founders of Twitter, also returned to the company that has since ballooned in valuation after he left. Reddit hasn’t seen the explosive valuation growth that Twitter has, but it did recently hit more than 1 billion monthly pageviews.

The new hires came after Reddit fell short-handed when Senior Software Engineer Mike “Raldi” Schiraldi left the site to pursue a “dream offer” from Google.
The announcement came through a blog post on Reddit, which indicated that Ohanian would also become an advisor for Condé Nast.

Reddit’s growth grew exponentially during a mass exodus from rival news aggregator Digg. That site decided to kill a number of popular features, sparking outrage among its members. Quantcast, a traffic research company, indicates that Digg now has 8.2 million unique visitors, down from nearly 16 million unique visitors in August before the latest version of Digg was released. Reddit boasts nearly 14 million unique visitors, according to the numbers it released today.
Reddit has about 10 employees working from San Francisco, New York, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles.
