Kaiser is well known healthcare delivery model and outcomes, but, it turns out, it’s also among the best at engaging members via the web and mobile apps.

The organization says in its 2013 annual report (just released) that about 4.4 million of its 9.1 million members use its online health management platform My Health Manager.

Members visited the My Health Manager site 131 million times in 2013. Using both desktop and mobile, Kaiser members viewed 34.4 million lab results, sent 14.7 million secure emails to caregivers, made 3.6 million appointment requests, and refilled 14.8 million prescriptions.

My Health Manager also offers a wellness section called Healthy Lifestyle, which offers users things like weight loss and smoking cessation help. Kaiser says 56 percent of Healthy Lifestyle users report losing weight, and 58 percent said they quit smoking. Those who used Healthy Lifestyle to improve sleep said they were sleeping 32 minutes more per night, on average.

Kaiser members also like mobile apps. The main “Kaiser Permanente” mobile app had 455,512 downloads last year. Using the app, members can email physicians, make appointments, order prescription refills, and access lab results. A million Kaiser members have now downloaded the app — that’s more than one out of every ten.

Kaiser’s app launched on both Android and iOS in 2012.
